Profiles
Organise profiles into groups
Create groups, put profiles in them, and keep the groups in folders, so the Profiles page can show one job at a time and a bulk action reaches exactly the profiles you mean.
Guide · 4 min read
By the end of this guide your profiles sit in groups, the groups sit in folders where that helps, and one click narrows the Profiles page to a single group.
How groups and folders fit together
- A profile belongs to one group at a time, or to none. The Profiles page shows a profile with no group as Ungrouped.
- A group holds profiles. It can sit inside one folder, or in none.
- A folder holds groups and other folders. A profile is never placed in a folder directly: it takes its folder from its group, which is why the New Browser Profile page says Folders are inherited from the group.
A common arrangement is a folder for each kind of work, such as Clients and Internal, with one group inside it for each client or job.
Before you start
- PowerOps installed and signed in, with your workspace open.
- Some profiles to organise.
- The owner or admin role, if you want to move profiles that already exist. Any member can create a group, and can choose a group for a profile while creating or editing it.
1. Create a group
- Choose Groups in the sidebar, then New group at the top right of the page.
- Type a Group name. Names are unique in the workspace, so two groups cannot share one.
- Description (optional) is shown under the group's name in the list.
- Leave Folder on No folder, or choose the folder the group belongs in.
- Choose Save.
What you should see
The group appears on the Groups page. The list opens with its folders closed, so if you chose a folder, open it with the arrow beside its name, or choose Expand all.
No folder to choose yet? Choose New folder on the same page, type a Folder name and choose Save, then create the group. For folders inside folders, colours and descriptions, use the Folders page in the sidebar.
2. Put profiles in the group
There are three ways, depending on how many profiles you are placing.
Several profiles at once
- Choose Profiles in the sidebar and tick the profiles you want to move.
- Choose Move to group in the bar above the table.
- Pick the group in the list. Folders are shown so you can find it, but only a group can be chosen. Destination, above the list, names your choice.
- Choose Move.
What you should see
A message confirms the move and offers Undo. In the table, the Group column shows each profile's new group, with its folder on the line below.
One profile
Open the menu at the end of the profile's row and choose Move to group. Or point at its Group cell and choose the pencil that appears, which saves as soon as you pick a group.
A new profile
On the New Browser Profile page, choose the group in the Group field before you choose OK. Edit profile has the same field, and neither of them needs the owner or admin role.
3. Work on one group at a time
- On the Groups page, choose View profiles on a group's row. The Profiles page opens showing only that group.
- On the Profiles page, open All groups and folders beside the search bar and choose a group. Choosing a folder instead lists the profiles of every group inside it, subfolders included.
With the list narrowed, tick the box at the top of the table to select every profile on the page, then use the bar above it: Open, Close, Assign tags, or More actions for the rest. The action runs on the ticked profiles and nothing else.
Rename, move or delete a group
On the Groups page, open the menu at the end of a group's row.
- Rename opens the same dialog as New group, where you can change the name, the description and the folder.
- Move to folder moves the group, with its profiles, into another folder. It needs the owner or admin role.
- Delete group removes the group only. Its profiles are kept and become Ungrouped, ready to be grouped again.
Moved something by mistake? Choose Undo in the message that confirms the move, or open Move history on the Groups page. A move can be undone for ten minutes.
Good to know
- Deleting a folder never deletes a group or a profile. If the folder is not empty, PowerOps asks where its contents should go first.
- An export keeps each profile's group and folder by name, and an import creates any that are missing.
- Groups are for organising. A profile's proxy, device identity and session do not change when you move it.
- Export and import profilesSave profiles to a file, import them into another workspace or onto another computer, and know what travels with them and what stays behind.Next guide
- Add, test and assign a proxySave a proxy once in your workspace's proxy library, test it, and assign it to the profiles that should use it. Each profile gets its own copy, and PowerOps checks it again when the profile opens.Next guide
- Use Cloud Sync between computersCheck that Cloud Sync is on, close a profile on one computer and open it on another with its session intact, and understand why only one computer can have a profile open at a time.Next guide
